Arnold I. Caplan, PhD, is a Professor of Biology & General Medical Sciences (Oncology) and Director of Cellular and Molecular Basis for Aging Training Program of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and serves as its Director of Skeletal Research Center. Dr. Caplan has also been Chief Scientific Officer at OrthoCyte Corporation, a subsidiary of BioTime, Inc., since June 2010.
Dr. Caplan co-founded Cell Targeting Inc. and was President and founder of Skeletech, Inc. He served as Chief Scientific Officer, Director and founder of Osiris Therapeutics, Inc. He has been Director of BioMetic Pharmaceuticals, Inc. since March 2001 and serves as Director at Carbylan Biosurgery, Inc. He also serves as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board at IsoTis, Inc. and SanBio Inc., and as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board at IsoTis S.A (Isotis Orthobiologics). He serves as member of Orthopedic Scientific Advisory Board at BioMimetic Therapeutics and was a Director of BioMimetic Therapeutics Inc. from March 2001 to September 2006.
Dr. Caplan has lectured and published extensively within the fields of cellular and molecular, developmental and bone biology and is recognized as one of the foremost authorities on tissue regeneration. He is the recipient of several honors and awards from the orthopedic research community.
Dr. Caplan holds his PhD from Johns Hopkins University Medical School and a BS in chemistry from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
