George F. Muschler, MD

George F. Muschler, MD, is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in adult reconstructive surgery and the treatment of fracture non-union and serves as vice chairman of the Orthopaedic and Rheumatologic Institute in the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Muschler's laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Cleveland Clinic focuses on challenges in adult stem cell biology, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine. Dr. Muschler has served as a leader in developing multi-institutional collaborative translational networks. He currently serves as director of the Clinical Tissue Engineering Center (CTEC), an Ohio-based network. Dr. Muschler also serves as a co-director of the Armed Forces Institute of Regenerative Medicine (AFIRM), a national network funded by the Department of Defense and dedicated to the acceleration of development of improved therapies to serve wounded warriors.

Dr. Muschler is a member of the American Medical Association, American Orthopaedic Association, Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons, Orthopedic Research Society, American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, International Society for Stem Cell Research, Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society, and International Society for Fracture Repair.

Dr. Muschler received his BS in Chemistry at the University of Illinois. He continued his education at Northwestern University School of Medicine, where he received his MD. Dr. Muschler completed his residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He has completed fellowships at the Hospital for Special Surgery and at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
